The philosophy of Alchemy - the attempt to purify, mature and perfect certain materials - has always fascinated me.

My name is Alex but you can call me Alkme. I prefer a pseudonym for my artistic endeavors as it grants me a sense of freedom from myself. This way, when I enter my creative space I can unhinge my mind from any bias or preconceived notion and be open to growth and exploration.

Why Alkme? Alkme is a made up homonym for Alchemy. The philosophy of Alchemy - the attempt to purify, mature and perfect certain materials - has always fascinated me. That fascination lead me to the concept that Art is the alchemical process by which we attempt to purify and perfect ourselves. The works we create are milestones along the journey serving as beacons of inspirations and reminders for others to take up their fire of creativity and become their best self.

I have been pursuing a relationship with myself via Art for almost 10 years. Over that time, I've learned to not take myself or my art too seriously. Instead, I have come to find a more self-serving relationship with art as this feels like the most honest endeavor.

I create art to document times in my life when I felt a certain way about something. My sketchbooks are my memories. I can look at a page and remember exactly where I was when I drew it. I share my art now in hopes that it my works may inspire and connect with others along the journey.

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to get to know me. I'm always open to conversation. Please contact me directly for projects or to inquire about purchasing my work.
